The Prosecutor General’s Office acknowledges the receipt of a case filed by journalist and CEO of Adhadhu News, Mr. Hussain Fiyaz Moosa, against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The complaint alleges that the President issued threats against the journalist during a phone call on March 14, 2025, at approximately 19:04 PM.

Following the submission of the case by the Maldives Police Service on March 23, 2025, the Prosecutor General’s Office conducted a thorough review of the investigation. After careful consideration of the legal framework and available evidence, the Prosecutor General has determined that there are no grounds to pursue criminal charges against the President.

This decision is based on the following legal assessments:

- The complaint alleges that the President threatened the journalist by stating that strict action would be taken against him to the fullest extent of the law.

- This statement does not satisfy the legal threshold required under Section 120 of Law No. 9/2014 (Maldives Penal Code).

- Additionally, it does not meet the necessary legal criteria stipulated under Section 2 of Law No. 17/2020 (Prevention of Dangerous Weapons Act)

In light of these findings, the Prosecutor General has formally decided to decline the case, and no further action will be taken in this matter.
